The Mighty Detail
Economics: The price of oil rose by nearly 2 per cent yesterday immediately after Israel’s strike on the Hamas leadership in Doha, Qatar. It follows concerns of wider regional conflict and the impact on crude oil flows.
The Middle East provides around one third of the world’s oil.
The price of crude settled back down at 0.6 per cent higher, after the US assured Qatar that such a strike would not happen again.
Business and markets: Shares in Oracle, the cloud computer software company, rose by over 20 per cent in late trading yesterday. Its performance obligations (which indicate future growth) are up by 359 per cent and stand at $455 billion. The company is benefitting from AI-related tech infrastructure demand.
Foreign Affairs: France’s President Macron has appointed close ally Sébastien Lecornu as the country’s new Prime Minister. It comes after the previous government collapsed on Monday over its debt reduction plans.
Today, the “Block Everything” protest movement in France may see rail services, motorways and other transport links disrupted in France.
Unions have called for a nationwide shutdown on the 18th September.
Security and intelligence: Poland has arrested a Belarusian spy and will expel a diplomat following accusations of espionage. Separately, Poland will close its border with Belarus from midnight on Thursday because Russia and Belarus will hold large-scale military drills simulating a fight with NATO countries near the border.
Domestic politics: The UK Prime Minister will meet Israel’s President Herzog today. Herzog, who does not have executive powers, says that his visit is to show solidarity with the Jewish community in the UK.

✏️Life coaching quote of the day
“People who describe the glass as half full are not delusional optimists. In fact, they are more based in reality because they are describing a substance that is actually in the glass. They are describing reality as it is. The cynic who describes the glass as half empty is focusing their energy on something that is not actually there.” – Rosamund and Benjamin Zander, writers
Mighty takeaway: Focus on the positives in your life. Don’t dwell on what isn’t there or hasn’t happened.
That’s it for this Wednesday morning. Thanks for reading!
