The Mighty Detail

Economics: The US economy grew at its fastest pace in nearly two years in Q2 2025. The revised figures suggest annual GDP growth of 3.8 per cent.

  • It comes off the back of strong consumer spending and business investment.

  • There are signs, however, of a slowdown after Q2. The US Federal Reserve cut interest rates last week because of slow jobs growth.

Business and markets: Investors are warning that the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s spending plans could “spook” the bond markets.

Foreign Affairs: The Speaker of Moldova’s Parliament has warned that Parliamentary elections on Sunday could re-orientate the country’s relations towards the EU or Russia. It comes after Moldova’s pro-EU Prime Minister said on Wednesday that Russia was spending hundreds of millions of euros to influence the election.

Security and intelligence: President Zelensky said yesterday that senior Russian officials could become the target of military strikes. Earlier this year, the UK, US, France and Germany lifted range restrictions on the weapons they provided to Ukraine so that they could reach deeper into Russia.

Domestic politics: The UK’s Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer is expected to outline plans today to introduce a compulsory UK-wide digital ID scheme. There are suggestions that the ID scheme would help to verify people’s right to live and work in the UK and tackle illegal migration.

✏️Life coaching quotes of the day

1. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” – Steve Jobs, entrepreneur

2. “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” –  Ralph Wado Emmerson, writer

Mighty takeaway: You have two quotes today to think about over the weekend! Firstly, live your life and your dreams – not someone else’s – life’s too short. Secondly, don’t look for outside factors – people, possessions, things – to bring you peace. Find peace with yourself.

That’s it for this morning. We hope that you enjoy the weekend!

Adios!
