The Mighty Detail

Economics: The UK economy grew by 0.1 per cent in Q3 2025. This compares with growth of 0.3 per cent between April and June. Growth of 0.2 per cent had been expected.

  • The cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover, which stopped vehicle production between August and October, is cited as one reason for the slowdown.

Business and markets: The major US stock market indices all fell yesterday as the sell-off in AI and tech stocks continues. The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell by 2.7 per cent. Chipmaker Nvidia’s stock fell by 3.58 per cent, while semiconductor maker Broadcom’s stock fell by 4.29 per cent. In Europe, the pan-European Stoxx 600 index also closed down by 0.6 per cent.

Foreign Affairs: The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has said that the continent is experiencing its worst cholera outbreak in 25 years. The Africa CDC has recorded 300,000 cases of cholera – a 30 per cent increase from last year – and 7,000 deaths.

Security and intelligence: Germany is re-introducing military service on a voluntary basis from January 2026.

  • The Germany military currently has 182,000 soldiers but needs 260,000 to meet NATO requirements.

  • 18-year-old men will be required to answer a mandatory questionnaire on their physical fitness and willingness to serve. Recruits will be paid €2,600 a month.

Domestic politics: The House of Lords will debate the assisted dying bill today. Peers have tabled nearly 1,000 amendments, which some news outlets are reporting could be an attempt to filibuster the legislation.
