The Mighty Detail
Economics: The US Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision today. Fed Chair, Kevin Warsh, will attend a press conference at 2.30pm ET which will be broadcast here. The Bank of England will separately announce its interest rate decision tomorrow, with recent surveys suggesting that inflation in the UK is falling.
Business: Coca-Cola has increased its sales forecast for 2026 following strong demand as a sponsor of the Football World Cup. In Q2, the soft drinks maker recorded net income of $4.43 billion and now expects sales growth of 5 per cent this year.
Shares in Coca-Cola have increased by 20 per cent this year.
Markets: Shares in SpaceX have fallen by nearly 14 per cent since the company’s debut on the US stock market last month. SpaceX’s share price peaked on the 16th June but by the start of this week SpaceX had lost $1.2 trillion in value.
Foreign Affairs: A significant earthquake hit Japan yesterday afternoon, estimated at between 6.8 and 7.1 on the Richter scale. The Japanese Government has mobilised personnel from the country’s Self-Defence Force. More than 60 aftershocks have been recorded and over 40,000 people are without power.
Security and intelligence: There have been major reductions in headcount at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in the US. Employee numbers are said to have fallen from around 2,000 to around 1,300 since President Trump came to power last year.
The US Government says that ODNI has become bloated but others state that staff reductions have not been carefully considered.
ODNI was created after 9/11 and is home to the National Counterterrorism Centre and the National Intelligence Council.
Domestic politics: The mayoral by-election in Greater Manchester takes place tomorrow. The vacancy was created by the departure of Andy Burnham. A recent poll shows Bev Craig, the Labour Party candidate, with a significant lead.

✏️Life coaching quote of the day
“Most people need consistency more than they need intensity.
Intensity:
run a marathon
write a book in 30 days
silent meditation retreat
Consistency:
don't miss a workout for 2 years
write every week
daily silence
Intensity makes a good story. Consistency makes progress.” – James Clear, writer
