The Mighty Detail

Economics: UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, will give her Mansion House speech tomorrow. Reeves is expected to announce plans that will require financial institutions to retrain financial services workers in AI.

Business and markets: Apple is suing OpenAI for the alleged theft of trade secrets relating to consumer hardware. Apple claims that former employees are disclosing technologies, products and processes that have not yet been made public. OpenAI denies the claims.

Foreign Affairs: Israel is to hold legislative elections on the 27th October 2026. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he will stand again for election. Polling suggests that retired army general Gadi Eisenkot (of the centrist Yashar party) could be Netanyahu’s main rival.

Security and intelligence: President Zelensky dismissed his Prime Minister yesterday, with reports that he will appoint an individual with an energy policy background ahead of the winter. He has also announced a new military command focused on long-range strikes against Russia.

Domestic politics: With all the difficulties in the world at the moment, we thought we would end this morning’s Mighty Memo with a more light-hearted story. Ahead of the summer holidays, the UK Foreign Office has published some unusual questions that British citizens have asked local consular staff. We highlight a few below (and yes, these are real!):

✏️Life coaching quote of the day

“When you struggle against this moment, you're actually struggling against the entire universe. Instead, you can make the decision that today you will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment. This means that your acceptance of this moment is total and complete.

You accept things as they are, not as you wish they were in this moment. This is important to understand. You can wish for things in the future to be different, but in this moment you have to accept things as they are.” – Deepak Chopra, writer and speaker

Mighty takeaway: Accept today and enjoy it, but work on changing tomorrow.

That’s it for this Monday morning. We’ll see you again on Wednesday.

Bye!
